Side A 19:19
1. Awkward City This town has a hold on me Someone should burn it on down. Young kids with social disease Someone should set them all free. We could discuss my disgust But I’d rather burn it on down. This town has a hold on us Someone should set it on free. Every street in this town has a story Every story is so fucking boring. This town has hold on me Someone should burn it on down. Awkward kids with social disease Set them all free. We could discuss my disgust I’d rather burn it all down. 2. Bloomberg Plows It'll take an army to clear your streets you've got in spades million dollar sheets Don't cramp the style They'll head up the coast Don't tax Don't smile Sort the bodies, call in the hearse Let's all hail the chief, let's all hail the thief, let's all hail the chief. Diamond sashemi, Laced with sweat Send the word call in the plows Blame yourself The Halls of Tammany are paved in platinum deliberate and dumb Go tell it to a mountain 3. Old Mouths Trapped in this chair I knew that you'd say that Trapped in this chair I knew you'd come clean Knew I had it coming I lent you an ear You've told me too much Feels like next year I heard it all before Heard you loud and clear the hands are in the gloves another joke my dear Old mouths They never come clean 4. Age of Backwards Instrumental

5. The Toucher The placement always matters Its always meant to hurt. The hammer's always subtle. Swung to benefit the worst. Where you lay head at night All things that you hold dear The hands have all been held The heads have been cleared I am the black dust lining of your lung, I am the corner of your page Kingmaker and crown Not a turner, not the sage 6. Shakin Hands With The Sheriff I left the academy for a position in radar Crumbs in my seat I eat in my car Tennis elbow, I never owned a racket Its just my job I love my job A smooth transition from the desert These slacks don't breathe I uphold the sleeze I'm workin these guns I've got a lot on my mind Next year we go electronic My paper's stacking up Next year we go electronic My paper's stacking up 7. Pony Destroyer Welcome equestrian, destroyer of men.  Hooves like calloused hands, conquer the promised lands. Back in the saddle again, you won’t come around. Out of the races, and onto the track. I’ll decide who lives and who dies. Out of the races and onto the track. Back in the saddle, again You won't come around 8. Sun and Gin Instrumental

about

"Perhaps the finest trick New Tongues have in their repertoire is their weird ability to be instantly evocative of several rock bands without ever sounding much like anyone. Sure, they lift a couple of riffs from Black Sabbath here and there but which heavy band worth their salt doesn’t? There’s a tasteful amount of reverb but it’s not really stoner or psychedelia, though there are little hints of both around the edges. There’s certainly an appreciation for the work of John Reis and Rick Froberg’s collaborations in bands such as Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes, though it’s significantly less busy than anything the San Diegan legends have committed to tape. Some of the dynamics are a touch reminiscent of long forgotten fellow Missourians Shiner, plus a nod or three to Chicago miscreants The Jesus Lizard. It’s such a hodgepodge of influences that for the most part the group defies easy categorisation. Most of their songs sound as though they are primarily constructed out of steel girders but there’s also a sly wink thrown in for good measures"
